For rats, gophers, chipmunks and ground squirrels. Big Snap-E is the end of the round. Special polystyrene material resists rodent-repelling stain and odor as well as bacteria and disease common in old-fashioned wooden traps. Extra-large trip paddle and 90 degree strike bar. Shorter strike distance doubles response speed. Rodents have no escape time and once caught, they stay caught. Sanitary disposal and easy cleaning for years of use.

Product Reviews

So much safer to set - so 2* - but for the rats too!
I would love to give this trap a 5* rating because setting it is soooo much safer than the Victor brand traditional traps. The design looks and feels like "a better rat trap" but has the one drawback that I get a lot more sprung traps without any victim than I do with the Victor traps. By the way I have no affiliation with Victor at all. I just like to kill rats. Talking of Victor, they make two types (that I know of) - a traditional one with a small metal bait holder, which scares the Sh*t out of me when I set them, but is as good as it gets w.r.t. dead vermin. They newer and safer ones have a large yellow paddle which is easier to set (nothing like as easy as the Big Snap-E trap though) and are still effective. The older type still has the 'hairier' trigger though...

Bait - I've used dried apricots, peanut butter and gummiworms all to good effect. I'm told fruit gums work well, but my local store only had worms. Didn't make much difference to the momentarily happy rat I caught last week. ;-) Cheese is quite poor.

I also had one of the Big-E traps break - in the 'trip' mechanism. I have to confess I didn't bother to find out how their customer service is - it's a $5 trap after all - but it's a shame it broke.

'Hope you kill lots of rats.

Doesn't work for larger rats
Sure the trap is easy and safe to setup but what good is that when it doesn't catch anything! Had it for over 6 months now and the two traps have yet to catch a rat. I often found the traps had snapped but no victims, and the baits are gone. Reverting back to using the Victor traps again.

By Far the Best
I've tried many rodent traps over the years but my success rate for a humane way to kill small rodents is near 100% with the Snap-E rat and mouse traps. It's rare that the trap is triggered and the rodent gets away and also rare the trap catches just a part of the body causing the animal to suffer. They're inexpensive, easy to set and I've never had one break. I use peanut butter as bait for rats and chipmunks and also for mice using the smaller traps.
